M.F. Husain, full name Maqbool Fida Husain, was a renowned Indian painter and filmmaker known for his modernist and vibrant works. He was born on September 17, 1915, in Pandharpur, Maharashtra, and passed away on June 9, 2011, in London. Often referred to as the "Picasso of India," Husain was one of the most celebrated and controversial figures in Indian art. Progressive Artists' Group (PAG)

M.F. Husain was a prominent member of the Progressive Artists' Group (PAG), which played a crucial role in the development of modern art in India. The group was founded in Bombay (now Mumbai) in 1947, the year India gained independence, by a collective of young artists who sought to break away from the traditional Indian art forms and explore new artistic expressions.

The PAG was founded by artists F.N. Souza, S.H. Raza, K.H. Ara, H.A. Gade, and M.F. Husain, among others. The group's goal was to create an Indian avant-garde that reflected the changing social and political landscape of the country.

M.F. Husain's involvement with the Progressive Artists' Group was a defining period in his career, marking his emergence as a major force in modern Indian art and contributing to the broader movement that sought to redefine Indian artistic identity in the post-independence era.
